the trip that started it all.
On the morning of January 2, 2008. Pnut and I stuffed my Prius to the brim with estimations of what we need in Colorado. This included about 8 bags of clothes, food, blankets, one cat, one litter box, a ton of emotional baggage, and most importantly our beloved Garmin. No one truly ever knows what has come over them when they decide to pack up a life they once knew and leave, however, as scary as it is, I believe it to be the best decision I have made thus far. I think that Pnut and I have different reasons for doing what we did and when it comes to why she made her decision, ill leave it to her to tell her side of the story.
As of now the three of us, Octavian, Pnut, and I have travelled through West Va, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Colorado. We have seen many interesting things, none of which came from Kansas. Driving through Kansas was like driving on a flat straight road that never seems to end. We were told that all we would see was corn fields, but I believe the season did not permit. Anyway, our first night was spent in St. Louis, which unfortunately we did not know was on the Mississippi River, how stupid. St. Louis is great! Here’s why:
- They sell Vodka in gas stations.
- You can take a riverboat cruise and gamble.
After spending all of the years in my life on the bible belt, these two facts give me hope, and that’s all I’ll say about that.
About an hour outside of Denver, and no where to stay, we thought it might be a good time to get a list of roommate prospects who had responded to our Craig’s list ad. The first ad we responded to was a girl named Jessica, who had twin beds, HBO, and two cats. How perfect we thought, Octavian will have some friends. Jessica sounded great on the phone, however it was 10 am when we talked to her and she didn’t get off work till 5:30. Craig’s list is Great! If indeed you are using it make sure that you time you arrival in your destination to consider such things. We ended up driving around Denver and up in the mountains to kill time, met Jessica at her apt after work and thought it was perfect.
